Today, press reports indicated that Walid Regragui, the former national coach of the Moroccan national team, has become the frontrunner candidate to take charge of the UAE national football team.
These news come following the UAE Football Association’s announcement yesterday of the termination of their contract with Romanian coach Cosmin Olăroiu, and their start of the search for his successor to lead the UAE White team in the coming phase.
According to sources, Walid Regragui’s agent is expected to travel to the United Arab Emirates in the next few days to discuss all details of the potential contract and the specific terms that will connect the coach with the UAE national team.
Regragui is considered one of the shining names in the Arab coaching world after his recent achievements.
Regragui’s separation from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation came after the Atlas Lions’ participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where he faced significant criticism and pressure despite leading the team to the tournament final.
Nevertheless, this separation did not erase his great achievements but rather increased his value as a sought-after coach.
Walid Regragui had inscribed his name in golden letters in the history of world football by leading the Moroccan national team to a historic and unprecedented achievement at the 2022 Qatar World Cup, where he brought the team to fourth place globally.
This achievement raised Regragui’s technical value and made him the focus of attention for many federations and clubs, especially after qualifying the Moroccan team for the 2026 World Cup before his separation from it.
