The Morocco futsal national team began its campaign to defend its continental title with a decisive and deserved 4-0 victory over the Algerian team in the opening match between them today, Monday, as part of the first round of Group One in the finals of the Africa Futsal Cup of Nations “Morocco 2026.”
The “Atlas Lions” imposed their absolute control over the first half’s proceedings and successfully applied high and continuous pressure on the Algerian goal, which preferred a defensive retreat. This pressure resulted in the opening goal by player Younes Mkaresi, before star player Youssef Jawad added the second goal, ending the first half with a clear lead for the Morocco futsal team.
The impressive performance and Moroccan dominance continued during the second half, as the national players maintained their fast pace and ball control. Youssef Jawad showcased his scoring skills by netting the third and fourth goals, completing his personal “hat-trick” and leading the Morocco futsal team to a great victory that reflects their ambition to retain the title.
With this convincing win, the Morocco team topped Group One with three points, leading on goal difference ahead of Zambia, which also won its match against Libya 3-1 earlier today. The “Atlas Lions” are preparing for a strong encounter against Zambia on Wednesday, October 14, before finishing the group stage against the Libyan team on Friday, October 16, on their way to winning the Africa Cup title.
It is worth noting that the Libyan and Algerian teams currently occupy third and fourth places in the group respectively, both without any points, making their upcoming matches critical for their fate in the tournament.
