The Royal Moroccan Football Federation announced, during a press conference held at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, the appointment of Mohamed Wahbi as the new coach of the Moroccan national football team, succeeding former coach Walid Regragui, thus beginning a new phase in the national team’s journey.
During the media gathering, the new coach revealed the first name to join his technical staff: Portuguese coach Joao Sacramento, who will assume the role of first assistant.
Wahbi explained that Sacramento possesses significant experience despite his age, highlighting that he has worked alongside prominent coaches such as José Mourinho and Christophe Galtier, which makes him a strong addition to the technical staff.
The national coach indicated that the remaining members of the staff are still being determined, affirming that the official announcement of all names will take place in the coming days after consultations are completed.
He added that there are a number of enthusiastic talents eager to work with the national team, and the goal is to form a cohesive technical team capable of meeting the ambitions of Moroccan football.
Wahbi expressed his great pride in the trust placed in him to lead the Moroccan national team. He began his speech by paying tribute to Mohammed VI for his continuous support for the development of national football, considering this support to be what has enabled Morocco to reach an advanced level on the international football stage.
The new coach affirmed that he recognizes the magnitude of the responsibility entrusted to him, stressing that he will work with utmost seriousness and national spirit to continue developing the team and bring joy to the Moroccan fans who follow the team with great passion.
Speaking about his future ambitions, Wahbi explained that the Moroccan national team includes a young group with great potential, noting that the work in the coming phase will focus on strengthening the team’s development so that it continues to raise Morocco’s flag in international competitions.
Wahbi also dedicated words of appreciation to former coach Walid Regragui, commending his contributions to the national team during his tenure, both through the achievements made and the support he provided to national technical staff, asserting that the team Regragui leaves is strong and ambitious and has a solid foundation for continued progress in the future.
