Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, the winger of English club Liverpool, confirmed today, Friday, his contentment with his decision to leave the Reds at the end of the current season, asserting that he wants to end his career on his own terms.
This decision comes after a fruitful nine-year journey at Anfield, where Salah reached an agreement with the club to terminate his two-year contract which he signed 12 months ago.
This season is considered the most frustrating for Salah during his time with Liverpool, and it witnessed a public dispute with coach Arne Slot last December, when Salah accused the coach of “abandoning him” after being excluded from the starting lineup following the team’s decline in results.
In an interview with former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard on “TNT Sports” channel, Salah said: “I feel that finishing the season this way is the right decision now, and I am comfortable with it.”
He added: “It was a difficult season for all of us, and I don’t want to say more. I am happy about it, everything that happened this season makes me say: No, it’s time to leave, so I am happy.”
Salah is expected to receive a well-deserved tribute in the last home match of this season against Brentford.
Despite his current injury, the striker confirmed that he “most likely” will return before that match.
Regarding his future, Salah told the British news agency (PA Media): “Honestly, I feel I have a lot to offer: I am in excellent physical condition, and I have played many matches this season. I have not yet decided what I will do, and to be fair, I have many good options.”
