English club Ipswich Town officially announced today the signing of Moroccan international Issa Diop, the former Fulham defender, in a deal extending until the summer of 2030, as part of the team’s efforts to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.
This deal represents a strong addition to Ipswich Town’s defense, given the player’s extensive experience in English football and his prominent international appearances.
Issa Diop’s joining Ipswich Town comes after his remarkable performance with the Moroccan national team at the 2026 World Cup finals, where he was one of the main pillars of the “Atlas Lions.” He participated in five matches, helping the team reach the quarter-finals, and scored an important goal against the Netherlands, reflecting his defensive and offensive capabilities and his great value as a player.
Ipswich Town revealed through press reports that the player will join the team immediately after his vacation following the World Cup. He is currently absent from the team’s training camp in the Spanish city of La Manga.
Issa Diop expressed his happiness with this new step in his career, stating that he felt Ipswich was the most suitable destination for him from the beginning of negotiations and is looking forward to connecting with his teammates and the club’s supporters.
Meanwhile, coach Gary O’Neil praised the signing of Issa Diop, confirming that the team had acquired a defender with extensive Premier League experience, along with possessing a highly competitive personality and exceptional technical abilities. He noted that the player’s performances with the Moroccan national team at the World Cup reinforced his conviction to complete the signing, making him a valuable addition to the defense.
Diop has a rich career in English football, having played 173 Premier League matches, including 119 appearances for West Ham United before moving to Fulham, where he played for four seasons.
Although he represented the French national team at youth levels and won the 2016 European Under-19 Championship, he chose to play for the Moroccan senior national team, benefiting from his heritage, thus becoming one of the prominent stars of the “Atlas Lions” at the 2026 World Cup.
