Omar Bennis, president of the sports company of Maghreb Fassi Club, categorically denied the circulating news about his team’s attempt to break the contract of player Mohamed Mofid, the right defender of Wydad Athletic Club, by paying the penalty clause. This confirmation came to put an end to recent speculations regarding Maghreb Fassi’s desire to sign the player, emphasizing their commitment to the ethical principles governing relations between Moroccan clubs.
Bennis explained, during a phone call with press reports, that he held an official meeting with Ibrahim Al-Asri, president of Wydad Athletic Club, to inquire about the status of three players within the red team, including Mohamed Mofid, whom Maghreb Fassi wishes to benefit from. Bennis stressed during the meeting that his team does not consider breaking Mofid’s contract, even if financially capable, out of respect for Wydad and the work principles adopted by Maghreb Fassi, which aim to strengthen relations with all local clubs and respect players’ rights.
Bennis pointed out that Maghreb Fassi indeed wants to sign three players from Wydad, expressing readiness to open negotiations with the red team if Wydad officials agree to transfer these players to the Moroccan champion. The president of the sports company of Maghreb Fassi confirmed his willingness to negotiate for the players, including Mofid, but totally refuses to break any player’s contract individually, to avoid straining the strong relationship between the two clubs.
Bennis expressed his surprise at some websites and social media pages circulating news claiming his team’s desire to break Mofid’s contract with Wydad without verifying the information by contacting him personally or the club’s media official. It is noteworthy that Maghreb Fassi will participate in the African Champions League next season after recently winning the professional league title, which reinforces their pursuit to strengthen their squad with distinguished players.
