The group stage competitions of the Gulf Cup 27 witnessed today a loss for Oman against Saudi Arabia with a score of three goals to one, in an exciting match between the two teams. The Omani team suffered a severe defeat against their Saudi counterpart, complicating their situation in Group A, which also includes Kuwait and Iraq. The match clearly showed the superiority of the Saudi team, which settled the matter early on.
The Saudi team scored all of their goals during the first half, thereby confirming their dominance and registering their second consecutive victory in the tournament, after opening their campaign with a win over Kuwait by a single goal. On the other hand, the Omani team stumbled in their first match with a goalless draw against Iraq, which put additional pressure on them before this confrontation that ended with Oman losing to Saudi Arabia.
Coach Tariq Al-Saktoyi expressed his disappointment with his team’s performance, describing the result as disheartening. Al-Saktoyi pointed out that the Omani team delivered a very poor first half and gifted the Saudi team two goals due to individual mistakes. He attributed the loss to physical differences and the opponent’s superiority in exploiting spaces, noting that fatigue and injuries impacted the players’ performance. Nevertheless, he stressed the need to correct the errors and approach the upcoming decisive match against Kuwait with seriousness and caution.
Meanwhile, despite the win and his team’s qualification to the Gulf Cup semi-finals, Greek coach Georgios Donis, head coach of the Saudi national team, expressed his dissatisfaction with his players’ performance, especially in the second half against Oman. Although achieving the goal of qualification, Donis emphasized the necessity of reviewing some aspects to ensure a better performance in the upcoming matches of the tournament.
