The Spanish club Real Madrid announced today the departure of its legendary captain Dani Carvajal at the end of the current season, a move that comes after a career filled with achievements and titles that made him one of the most prominent legends in the club’s long history. The royal club confirmed that this decision comes in agreement with the player, expressing its deep gratitude and appreciation for his unforgettable contributions.
The Madrid club explained in an official statement on its website: “We have agreed with Carvajal to end a wonderful career as a player with the club at the end of the current season. We are very grateful to him and appreciate him as one of the greatest legends of Real Madrid and world football.”
Carvajal is the fifth player in the club’s history to win the Champions League title six times, highlighting his status as a key pillar during the golden era the club experienced. Dani Carvajal joined Real Madrid in 2002, spending 23 seasons with the team, including 10 seasons in the youth ranks and 13 seasons with the first team.
The veteran defender won 27 titles with Real Madrid, including 6 Champions League titles, 6 Club World Cup titles, as well as 5 UEFA Super Cup titles, and 4 La Liga titles. He also won 2 Copa del Rey titles and 4 Spanish Super Cup titles.
Dani Carvajal was selected in the FIFA and FIFPro’s 2024 Best XI lineup, and he won the Best Player award in the 2024 Champions League final after scoring a decisive goal.
Carvajal participated in 450 matches with Real Madrid, scoring 14 goals, and wore the Spanish national team jersey in 51 matches, winning the 2023 UEFA Nations League and the 2024 UEFA European Championship.
Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid, stated that “Dani Carvajal’s departure marks a wonderful end to a legendary career. Carvajal is a legend and symbol of Real Madrid and its academy. His image alongside the icon Alfredo Di Stefano, laying the foundation stone of Real Madrid City, will remain etched in the hearts of our fans and the history of our club.”
Perez added that Carvajal has always adhered to the club’s values and Real Madrid will always be his home. The club concluded its statement wishing Carvajal and his family all the best in the next phase of his life, announcing plans to organize a tribute ceremony during his last match for the team in the league at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
