The fans eagerly await a strong showdown today, Thursday, between the Moroccan and French national teams in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinals, with attention focused on Gillette Stadium in Boston, USA. According to press reports, Opta, the company specialized in sports statistics, conducted 25,000 simulations using its supercomputer, which gave the Moroccan team a 15.7% chance of winning against the French team within the regular match time.

Despite this percentage, the French team remains the favorite to advance to the semifinals, with Opta giving the French Les Bleus a 62.2% chance of winning during the 90 minutes of the match. Meanwhile, the probability of the match ending in a draw and going into extra time or penalties was 22.1%, which indicates that the confrontation could be closer than the initial numbers suggest.

Historically, France has faced some challenges against African teams in World Cup tournaments. Since 2000, the French national team has suffered three defeats out of six total losses against African teams. These defeats were at the hands of Senegal in 2002, South Africa in 2010, and Tunisia in 2022, which adds a note of optimism to the Moroccan team’s hopes of repeating the surprise.

The match between the two teams, which will determine the semifinalist, kicks off at 9 PM GMT (+1). The winner of this matchup will face the victor of the Spain vs. Belgium game, scheduled for Friday evening, in the same round of the World Cup. Football fans are eagerly awaiting this decisive match, which may bring new surprises to the records of the 2026 World Cup.
