The African Futsal Nations Cup kicks off today, Monday, in Morocco, hosted in the capital city of Rabat. The Moroccan national team, the three-time consecutive defending champions, aims to reinforce its dominance by securing a fourth title in its history. The aspirations of the “Lions of the Hall” stand out strongly, backed by the home ground and fan support, which enhances their chances of successfully defending their title.
The African Football Confederation (CAF) dedicated a detailed report on its official website to the tournament, highlighting the eight participating teams and their chances of winning. The report pointed to the extensive experience of Egypt and Libya, noting that Egypt won the title three times in 1996, 2000, and 2004, while Libya claimed the title once in 2008, making them strong contenders in this edition of the African Futsal Nations Cup.
The report also mentioned the ambitions of other teams, such as Angola, the runner-up in the previous edition, in addition to Mozambique and Zambia, both aiming to improve on their past results. Algeria and Tanzania are participating in the continental finals for the first time, adding a new dimension of competitiveness and excitement to the tournament.
The participating teams are divided into two groups: Group A includes Morocco, Libya, Zambia, and Algeria. Group B consists of Egypt, Angola, Mozambique, and Tanzania. The tournament continues until October 21, and strong and thrilling matches are expected to determine the champion of the 2026 African Futsal Nations Cup.
