Daniel Farke, the head coach of Leeds United, expressed his deep disappointment following Leeds’ 2-1 defeat to Arsenal today, Saturday, in the sixth round of the English Premier League. He affirmed that his team played excellently and did not deserve to lose, while he praised Arsenal’s strength as one of the best clubs worldwide.
The match, held at the Emirates Stadium, saw Leeds take the lead with a goal scored by James Justin in the 55th minute, after a strong performance by the visitors, especially in the first half. Despite Leeds’ attempts to extend their lead and score a second goal, the defending champions Arsenal managed to reverse the score in the second half. Ricardo Calafiori scored the equalizer in the 62nd minute, followed by substitute Bruno Guimarães who scored the winning goal in the 68th minute, granting Arsenal a hard-fought victory and valuable points.
Farke told press reports that he felt great bitterness for not getting a positive result for his team, but at the same time he was proud of the level the players showed, especially in the first half. The German coach pointed out that Arsenal exploited the small details that decided the match in their favor, considering that the London team has high quality and players capable of changing the course of the game at any moment, which indeed happened after the substitutes came on.
Farke attributed the difficulty of the task to the players returning from the international break only two days before the match, which affected preparations. However, he refused to use that as an excuse for the loss, stressing that the conditions were similar for both teams. He concluded his statements by affirming that Leeds would benefit from this strong match against one of the world’s best teams and would seek to analyze the mistakes and correct the course despite the bitterness of today’s loss.
With this result, Arsenal raised their points tally to 15, occupying second place on goal difference behind Manchester City at the top, while Leeds remained at 9 points in sixth place temporarily, suffering their first loss this season after two wins and three draws.
