Florentino Pérez, the president of Real Madrid and presidential candidate, announced the appointment of José Mourinho as the new coach of the royal club if he wins the upcoming elections. This decisive announcement puts an end to the speculations about the identity of the team’s next coach and confirms the return of the “Special One” to lead the Merengue helm in a second term. The official account of Pérez’s electoral campaign posted a video clip of Mourinho wearing a Real Madrid jersey, confirming the news with the word “Yes,” accompanied by the phrase “Mourinho, a story worth telling!”.

Pérez had always remained silent regarding these speculations, avoiding a direct answer about the name of the coach who will succeed Álvaro Arbeloa. However, press reports previously revealed a nearly complete agreement between the two parties weeks ago, which explains the secret negotiations preceding the official announcement. This confirmation from Florentino Pérez cuts off any other interpretations, especially as the royal club’s presidential election date approaches on the coming Sunday.

The return of Mourinho, 63 years old, comes after activating the penalty clause in his contract with Benfica, leaving the Portuguese team after only one season. The seasoned coach is preparing to inaugurate his second term with Real Madrid, having led the team from 2010 to 2013, winning with them the Spanish league title and the Spanish King’s Cup. Between the two terms, Mourinho managed several major European clubs, most notably Chelsea, Manchester United, and Roma.

On the other hand, the opposing candidate, Enrique Riquelme, announced his rejection of Mourinho’s return, affirming that he is not the best choice for the coming phase. Despite these conflicting positions, it seems that José Mourinho has already started planning for the new season, presenting Pérez with a list of his requirements for new signings and players who might leave the club, confirming his seriousness in the challenge of leading Real Madrid once again.
