Senegalese President Bassirou Dioma Faye praised the royal pardon for Senegalese, a decision issued by King Mohammed VI pardoning Senegalese fans who were sentenced following the events witnessed during the final of the Africa Cup of Nations “Morocco 2025”.
Faye considered this step as an embodiment of the values of tolerance and humanity that characterize the fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries.
In a post on his official account on the “X” platform, the Senegalese President confirmed that the Senegalese citizens arrested in Morocco due to the events related to the continental competition “are now free,” emphasizing that they will soon be reunited with their families thanks to the royal pardon granted by King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha.
Faye expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to King Mohammed VI for this decision, describing it as “filled with tolerance and humanity,” highlighting that it once again embodies the deeply rooted historic bonds of brotherhood between Senegal and Morocco.
The Senegalese President also took the opportunity to congratulate King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, in a message that carried special praise for this humanitarian initiative that strengthens the bonds of love and cooperation between the two countries.
The Royal Court had announced that King Mohammed VI granted a pardon to Senegalese fans sentenced for misdemeanors and crimes committed during the Africa Cup of Nations football competition hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco between December 21, 2025, and January 18, 2026, “considering the historic brotherhood relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal,” and “for humanitarian reasons” on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
