The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is witnessing a significant event on Thursday, August 6, 2026, as the CAF emergency meeting of the executive office convenes via video conference.
This anticipated meeting comes to discuss many vital files that shape the future of football on the African continent, amid the challenges and opportunities facing the African football system.
The agenda of the CAF emergency meeting is led by several pivotal issues, including a detailed presentation by the acting secretary-general of CAF, Nigerian Samson Adamu.
The presentation will address proposals related to the federation’s competitions and events, foremost among them the final arrangements for the 2026 Africa Women Cup of Nations currently held in Morocco. The latest updates regarding the organization of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which is planned to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, will also be reviewed.
The meeting is expected to witness extensive discussions about the recommendation of the Club Competitions Committee regarding the development of the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup, a step aimed at raising the level of competition and increasing the appeal of the tournaments.
The date and venue for the 2026 African Super Cup and the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League will be determined, in addition to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations U-23 qualifying tournament for the Olympics.
In addition, the executive office will discuss the possibility of supporting African national teams participating in the 2026 U-17 World Cup, and consider a project to launch a new Africa Cup of Nations tournament for girls under 17 years old.
The meeting will also not overlook the organizational files for the Africa Cup of Nations for the years 2028, 2032, and 2036, along with their commercial bids. The FIFA Forward Enterprise program and the proposed expansion in funding for football development projects from FIFA will also be addressed, along with details of the controversial African Nations League project.
