Coach Moeen Al-Shaabani has officially taken on the role of leading the Tunisian national football team, known as the “Carthage Eagles,” under a contract extending until 2030. This long-term contract comes as part of the Tunisian Football Federation’s effort to ensure technical stability and achieve ambitious goals for the team, foremost among them qualifying for the 2030 World Cup.
The contract with Moeen Al-Shaabani was not easy to secure, as the Tunisian federation faced a major obstacle represented by the penalty clause in the coach’s contract with his former team, Nahdat Berkane. However, intervention by responsible parties helped find a solution to reduce this amount, paving the way to complete the deal and for Al-Shaabani to take over the national team coaching position.
The Tunisian federation began negotiations with Moeen Al-Shaabani following the dismissal of coach Sabri Lamouchi, but the financial amounts linked to the penalty clause prevented an early agreement. After resolving this obstacle, Al-Shaabani left Berkane heading to Tunisia to sign the official contract, marking the start of a new phase for the Carthage Eagles.
Al-Shaabani aspires to restore the “Carthage Eagles” to the path of victories and provide performances worthy of the reputation of Tunisian football, especially after a disappointing participation in the 2026 World Cup. He is tasked with building a strong team capable of competing at the highest levels and achieving the ultimate goal of qualifying for the next World Cup, which will be hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
