The 1-1 draw between Wydad and Amal Tiznit in the match held on Sunday evening, as part of the fourth round of the Professional League, sparked mixed reactions between the two teams’ coaches. While Portuguese coach Paulo Sergio of Wydad expressed great disappointment, Abdel Rahim Ashkelit, coach of Amal Tiznit, considered the draw a positive and deserved result for his team.
Sergio explained in the post-match press conference that his team controlled the flow of the game entirely, noting that the result did not reflect the great effort made by the players. The Portuguese coach described the draw as disappointing, confirming that Wydad deserved to win, despite admitting some mistakes that gave the opponent limited chances. He added that the team’s collective performance showed noticeable improvement, especially in high pressing, ball recovery, and chance creation, but the lack of efficiency in front of the goal denied Wydad the three points.
On the other hand, Abdel Rahim Ashkelit, coach of Amal Tiznit, saw the draw against Wydad as a major achievement for his team, given the large differences in capabilities and experience between the two clubs. Ashkelit revealed that his team adopted a tactical approach completely different from previous matches to avoid past mistakes and limit the danger posed by Wydad’s players, who rely on possession and deep passes. The Amal Tiznit coach emphasized that returning with a valuable point from the Mohammed V Complex is an important gain, especially since the team is playing its first season in the top professional division.
The match saw Amal Tiznit take the lead first through a penalty scored by Zakaria Al-Salhi in the 53rd minute, before Silver Ganfola equalized for Wydad from another penalty in the 62nd minute. Attempts continued from both sides to snatch a winning goal, but to no avail. With this draw, Wydad raised its points total to five, occupying ninth place, while Amal Tiznit reached four points in eleventh place. This draw raises questions about Wydad’s ability to regain their balance and achieve better results under their new coach.
