Hicham Dakik, coach of the Moroccan futsal national team, confirmed that the team’s main objective currently is to reach the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations, following the strong performance by the players in the opening match against the Algerian team. Dakik expressed his general satisfaction with the match result, which ended with the Atlas Lions winning four to zero, noting that the encounter had a special “derby” nature and was the first direct contact between the players and Moroccan fans inside the arena.
The national coach explained in a press statement after the match, held yesterday in Rabat, that giving all players the opportunity to participate and gain competitive experience was one of his key goals during this encounter. Despite missing some scoring chances, Dakik considered the experience positive and important for the team as they start their campaign in the continental tournament.
Dakik emphasized that the Moroccan futsal team aims to continue steadily and focused towards achieving the intermediate goal of reaching the final four, before planning for the advanced stages of the tournament. He pointed out that the Algerian team’s purely defensive approach complicated the Moroccan players’ task at times, but it did not prevent them from securing a well-deserved 4-0 victory.
The coach of the “Lions of the Hall” remarked that the score could have been larger had all opportunities been converted, stressing the importance of regaining the vitality and energy that previously characterized the team’s performance. Dakik concluded his statements by affirming ongoing work in the coming period to address technical details, especially regarding how to finish attacks and effectively capitalize on chances close to goal, in preparation for upcoming matches in the tournament.
