Moroccan star Yassir Azabiri scored his first official goal wearing the jersey of his new team, Racing Santander of Spain, during the friendly match between Santander and Sporting Gijón today, Friday, as part of both teams’ preparations for the upcoming football season. This goal confirms the great potential the player possesses and his ability to quickly adapt to new surroundings.
Azabiri, who started the match, led his team to close the first half with a clean sheet of three goals, scoring his personal goal in the 92nd minute of added time. Azabiri showed an outstanding level that confirms the coaching staff’s trust in him and suggests a promising future with the Spanish team.
It is worth noting that Yassir Azabiri chose to move to the Spanish league coming from the Portuguese league, seeing a significant resemblance in the style of play suitable for his technical skills, unlike the French league, in which he did not find the same flexibility due to its heavy reliance on physical aspects. Azabiri appeared confident in his ability to adapt quickly during his presentation conference to the media and fans.
Azabiri joined the French team Rennes during the last winter transfer window, coming from Famalicão of Portugal in a deal worth 10 million euros. Rennes decided to loan the young player to Racing Santander to give him a greater opportunity to participate and gain experience, with his contract at Rennes extending until the summer of 2029.
It is noteworthy that Yassir Azabiri was one of the standout stars of the Moroccan national team under 20, actively contributing to Morocco’s triumph in the U-20 World Cup against Argentina, and he was the top scorer of the tournament at the Chile World Cup, thus confirming his outstanding scoring talent.
