Abdelsalam Benjelloun, the coach of Wydad Temara, spoke about the exciting match that saw his team face Wydad Casablanca in the first round of the professional league “Inwi,” which ended with Wydad Temara winning three goals to one. Benjelloun confirmed the difficulty of the match, pointing out that his team took into account the strength of Wydad Casablanca as a major team with a prestigious history and a large fanbase, especially since the draw placed them in a direct confrontation with this renowned club.
Benjelloun revealed that the technical staff of Wydad Temara carefully studied Wydad’s players, expressing his initial concern about his players’ lack of experience in such competitive atmospheres. However, he noted that player Mohamed El Timoumi significantly contributed to providing the players with the necessary experience. The coach praised the strong performance his team showed during the first quarter of an hour of the match, where the forwards managed to dominate the play and score goals, though he admitted that Wydad Casablanca was capable of coming back at any moment, especially in the second half after they changed their playing style.
Benjelloun considered that winning the first three points in the league against a team as valued as Wydad Casablanca would be a great motivation for the players. Nevertheless, he emphasized the importance of correcting mistakes and maintaining humility in their performance, confirming that football does not know consistency; a win today might be followed by a loss tomorrow. Therefore, the team is currently focusing on good preparation for the tough match awaiting them in the second round against Ittihad Touarga.
It is worth mentioning that Wydad Temara, newly promoted to the top division this season, strengthened its ranks with 12 new players from the second professional division as part of its preparations for the new season. The team had a strong and noticeable start in its first league match, confirming its ambitions to deliver an outstanding season.
