Morocco’s national team coach, Mohamed Wahbi, confirmed that the 2-1 victory against Paraguay in the friendly match held in the French city of Lens is part of the ongoing preparations for upcoming challenges, foremost among them the World Cup finals, while also focusing on achieving positive results.
The national technical director explained, in his statements after the match, that the technical staff made some adjustments to the lineup compared to the previous match against Ecuador, without making drastic changes, indicating that maintaining some key players helps new players adapt and showcase their capabilities in suitable conditions.
He added that the goal of this preparatory period is to create strong competition within the squad, emphasizing his ambition to face difficult choices when deciding on the final list by raising the individual and collective performance level of the players.
Analyzing the match’s course, Wahbi pointed out that the team faced a tactically disciplined opponent, especially in the first half, which relied on a defensive block that made it difficult to penetrate. Adjustments were made between the halves.
He confirmed that the team’s performance improved significantly in the second half, by increasing the tempo of play and exploiting spaces, whether through organized attacks or counter-attacks, which led to scoring goals.
He also acknowledged a drop in pace during the final minutes, explaining it by the substitutions made to give opportunities to several players, considering this to be normal within the context of a friendly match.
He concluded his remarks by emphasizing that work will continue in the next phase through continuous monitoring of players’ readiness to ensure they are in their best possible condition for upcoming events.
