Spanish coach Jorge Vilda, head of the Moroccan women’s national team, confirmed that Morocco’s qualification for the 2026 Women’s World Cup, to be hosted by Brazil, is the culmination of the ambitious project adopted by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. Vilda emphasized that this historic achievement for the Atlas Lionesses reflects the significant efforts made to develop women’s football in the kingdom.
Commenting on the quarter-final match against South Africa, which ended with Morocco winning 2-1, Vilda stated that the first half witnessed clear dominance by his team in both score and performance. He added that after scoring the second goal, the Moroccan players had to retreat and rely on defensive organization to face the intense attacks from the South African players, praising the players’ ability to endure and withstand pressure, which enabled them to advance to the African Cup of Nations semi-finals and qualify for the World Cup.
The Spanish coach pointed out that the team’s main goal had always been to reach the World Cup, confirming that this achievement is the status Morocco deserves on the global football stage. Vilda highlighted the pivotal role of the Royal Football Federation in achieving this milestone, thanks to its purposeful project that effectively contributed to advancing women’s football and providing all means of support and professionalism.
