The Royal Army Club failed to win the African Champions League football title after drawing today with a 1-1 score against South African Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the continental final held at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

This draw granted the title to the South African team, which had won the first leg match 1-0.

The first half witnessed strong competitiveness and open play from both sides, during which the two teams managed to score two goals.

The captain of the “Soldiers,” Mohamed Rabie Harimat, opened the scoring for the Royal Army in the fortieth minute with a penalty kick.

However, the Moroccan joy did not last long, as Teboho Mokoena equalized for Mamelodi Sundowns in the seventh minute of added time of the first half with a strong shot that goalkeeper Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti could not save, ending the first half in a positive draw.

The Royal Army entered the second half with intense pressure, seeking to score an early goal to revive hopes of winning the continental title.

The most prominent chance for the Moroccan team came in the seventy-fifth minute when a second penalty was awarded, but Harimat missed it after a successful save by Sundowns’ goalkeeper Williams.

Despite continuous attempts and offensive pressure by the Royal Army, the score did not change, allowing Sundowns to maintain their lead and win the African Champions League title for the second time in their history, after their first title in the 2016 edition.

This victory adds Sundowns to the African football scene in recent years, leaving the Royal Army with disappointment after a good journey in the tournament that was not crowned with the desired title against Sundowns.
