In an important step to ensure the smooth progress of preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations 2027, the President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, today, accompanied by the Sports Ministers and Football Association Presidents from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, approved the establishment of a supervisory committee dedicated to organizing the tournament, during a working meeting held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
This decisive decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to accelerate the pace of preparations for hosting this major continental event, especially amid the controversy surrounding the readiness of the three host countries.
The formation of this committee aims to provide strategic guidance, joint coordination, and follow up on all preparations related to organizing the African tournament.
The meeting was attended by a number of prominent government and sports officials, including the Kenyan Minister of Youth, Creative Economy and Sports, the Tanzanian Minister of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, the Ugandan State Minister for Sports, in addition to the Football Association Presidents of the three countries and the CAF acting Secretary General. The participants signed a joint decision to start the committee’s tasks immediately.
The three countries pledged, according to an agreed roadmap, to achieve a set of key goals before the end of next August.
These goals include accelerating the development of stadiums and infrastructure, identifying the host stadiums and operational plans, and enhancing operational coordination at the borders to facilitate visa, immigration, customs, and movement procedures.
The commitments also include strengthening safety, security, and medical preparedness measures, and providing all the necessary services and infrastructure to ensure a successful and distinguished organization of the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 preparations.
