The Atlas Lions squad is preparing to play two friendly matches on home soil before traveling to face Norway in the United States, as part of the final preparations for the 2026 World Cup finals.
This step comes as part of the technical staff’s efforts to ensure the players’ physical and technical readiness, with fans eagerly awaiting these friendly matches of the Moroccan national team.
According to African media sources, specifically the site “Afrik Foot,” the Moroccan national team will host its Burundi counterpart on May 26 in the city of Rabat, in a match that will be held without spectators.
Final arrangements are currently underway for the second friendly match, also scheduled for June 2 in the capital Rabat, where the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has entered into negotiations with several potential teams, including Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar. Sources confirm that Madagascar is the closest to facing the Lions in this second friendly.
These friendly matches aim to prepare the Moroccan players perfectly for upcoming challenges, especially after the announcement of the match against Norway on June 7 in Harrison, near New York, as part of the preparatory matches for the 2026 World Cup.
The importance of these matches lies in giving the technical staff the opportunity to try different playing strategies and assess the players’ level before entering the grand global competition.
