Spanish coach Luis Enrique directed sharp criticism at Paris Saint-Germain after their unexpected 2-1 defeat to Paris FC in the final round of the French football league on Sunday evening. This harsh criticism described the team’s performance as the “worst” under his leadership since he took over the role three years ago.
Enrique, in remarks reported by the “Ligue 1 Plus” app after the match, did not hide his disappointment and pointed out that the team gained nothing from the game, especially in the first half which he described as very poor, with no significant chances created. The coach explained that evaluating players under such circumstances is extremely difficult, given the complete absence of spirit and ambition on the pitch.
The Paris Saint-Germain head coach added that what happened was not just the worst half of the season but the “worst match” he has experienced with the team over three years. Although he acknowledged possible excuses, he categorically rejected them, emphasizing that a player at Paris Saint-Germain must prove their excellence under all circumstances, even in matches where the title has already been decided. Enrique stressed his complete dissatisfaction with the team’s performance in this final encounter.
It is noteworthy that Paris Saint-Germain had officially secured the French League title before this round, for the fifth consecutive season and the fourteenth time in its history. The Parisian club now prepares for the most important and toughest test when they face English club Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League final on May 30 at the “Puskás Arena” in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
