The name of the Portuguese coach José Mourinho has resurfaced at Real Madrid, topping the news once again after Spanish media reports revealed that he is one of the leading candidates to take charge of the royal team in the upcoming period, amid increasing talk about upcoming changes within the club. Mourinho has set two main conditions to agree to return to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
According to the Spanish newspaper “AS,” the first condition is that Mourinho obtains greater authority regarding signings, especially in identifying the positions that need reinforcement, as he considers the team to suffer from some shortcomings in terms of human structure.
The second condition relates to reorganizing the internal structure of the first team, clarifying roles and authorities within the club to avoid the problems that appeared this season inside the dressing room.
The same reports added that communications between Real Madrid’s management and Mourinho are currently conducted through his agent Jorge Mendes, while the Portuguese coach continues to focus on finishing his current season before deciding on his final future.
Real Madrid will have a short deadline to finalize the deal without paying a large financial amount, as Mourinho’s contract includes a clause allowing him to leave for just three million euros, within the ten days following his team’s last league match, scheduled for May 16.
On the other hand, Benfica is moving to retain its coach after offering him a contract extension, given the positive results the team has achieved this season and its strong competition for the top position in the Portuguese league.
It is worth noting that Real Madrid was defeated yesterday, Sunday, by their traditional rival Barcelona by two goals to nil in a decisive match, freezing their points at 77 in second place, confirming their exit with a zero-trophy season, leaving their league title count at 36. These negative results may increase the chances of José Mourinho’s return to Real Madrid to rebuild the team.
