The absence of the national team star Ibrahim Diaz from the anticipated match against Lesotho today, Tuesday, in the second round of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, has been confirmed. This decision was made based on the recommendation of the national team’s medical staff, who confirmed that the player is not physically ready to participate in the match.
According to press reports, the French doctor Christophe Dolot, the Moroccan national team’s physician, informed the national coach Mohamed Wahbi of the necessity to rest Ibrahim Diaz. This recommendation aims to protect the player from worsening the current thigh injury, which could negatively affect his sports career.
Coach Mohamed Wahbi has decisively decided to exempt Ibrahim Diaz from playing in the crucial match against Lesotho. This decision comes within the framework of prioritizing the player’s safety first and ensuring his readiness for the important upcoming dates for the Moroccan national team.
It is worth mentioning that Ibrahim Diaz also did not participate in the previous national team match against Gabon last Friday, which ended with a 2-0 victory for the “Atlas Lions,” with goals scored by Noussir Mazraoui and Sofiane Rahimi. The technical staff is counting on the readiness of the other players to compensate for Diaz’s absence and achieve a positive result against Lesotho.
