The two Moroccan stars, Achraf Hakimi and Ibrahim Diaz, top the list of prominent nominees for the prestigious CAF awards for 2026, at the ceremony to be hosted soon in Nigeria.
Nigeria is preparing to host two major continental football events, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has selected Nigeria to organize the 48th Ordinary General Assembly, in addition to the CAF Awards ceremony for 2026.
These events are expected to see a large attendance of African football stars and officials, led by CAF President Patrice Motsepe, along with prominent sports and political figures from across the continent.
Special attention is focused on the Best African Player award, which is expected to witness fierce competition among the giants of the game. The Moroccan player Achraf Hakimi’s name stands out strongly, alongside Nigerian Victor Osimhen and fellow Moroccan Ibrahim Diaz.
Hakimi had won the award in the previous edition held in Morocco, surpassing Osimhen, while Moroccan Ghizlane Chebbak earned the Best African Female Player award due to her brilliance with the Moroccan national team.
Although Osimhen had an outstanding season leading Galatasaray to win the Turkish league, the consistent performances of Achraf Hakimi and Ibrahim Diaz with their clubs and national team put them again at the forefront of the competition.
