The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football, known as CAF, is holding a crucial meeting next Thursday to discuss a range of key files shaping the future of football in the African continent. This meeting comes amid great aspirations to develop football performance at all levels, from club competitions to women’s football, and up to hosting major tournaments.
Among the prominent topics on the discussion table is exploring ways to develop women’s football and enhance its participation in global football arenas, especially after the significant increase in financial incentives allocated to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champion. The Executive Committee members will also discuss proposals to develop the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, which may include increasing the number of participating clubs starting from the next season to raise the level of competition.
On another front, the meeting will set the official date and venue for the 2026 CAF Awards Ceremony. Following the successes Morocco achieved in hosting the last three editions of the ceremony, press reports indicate that CAF President Patrice Motsepe may propose to Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, to host Morocco again for this prestigious annual event.
Additionally, CAF members will review the bids from countries wishing to host the Africa Cup of Nations tournaments for the years 2028, 2032, and 2036. The discussions will also include a new proposal for the format of the upcoming African editions, in a step aimed at modernizing the tournament and making it more attractive and well-organized, reaffirming CAF’s commitment to advancing the game in Africa.
