The Royal Army Club today announced its official signing of Portuguese coach Consalves to take over as head coach of the first team for two sports seasons, succeeding his compatriot Alexander Santos. This step comes as part of the club’s pursuit to strengthen its local and continental ambitions and present an ambitious sports project that meets the expectations of its large fan base.
The military club revealed, through a press statement, that this contract was concluded immediately after the departure of the previous coach Alexander Santos, who led the team for one and a half seasons before moving to Kuwait SC. The club praised Santos’s efforts during his tenure and wished him all the best in his new coaching career.
Royal Army places great hopes on Portuguese coach Consalves to steer the team towards achieving the desired accomplishments during the next two seasons. Through this contract, the club aims to strongly compete for local titles and return to its prestigious position on the continental stage, especially after the recent achievements made by the team.
Consalves has a diverse resume, having previously coached the Angola national team, as well as his recent experience with the Tanzanian team Young Africans, according to press reports. The Royal Army management hopes his accumulated experiences will be a decisive factor in accomplishing the set goals. It is noted that the Royal Army finished the season in fourth place with 55 points and qualified on Wednesday to the round of 16 of the Throne Cup by defeating Moroccan Settat 2-1. The team also reached the runner-up position in the CAF Champions League after losing the title to South African Mamelodi Sundowns, which confirms the team’s great potential despite its challenges.
