The Moroccan national team secured its ticket to the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup after defeating the Canadian team 3-0 in the match held at Houston Stadium in the United States, as part of the Round of 16 competition.
The match started with a relative advantage for the Canadian team, which put pressure on the ‘Atlas Lions’ defense during the early minutes, while the Moroccan team needed some time to get into the rhythm of the game.
The national team suffered an early blow with the exit of Ismail Saibari due to injury before the end of the first half, prompting coach Mohamed Wahbi to give Sufyan Rahimi the chance to play in a half characterized by caution and tactical discipline from both sides, ending goalless.
With the start of the second half, the Moroccan team appeared differently, and Ezz Aldin Ounahi succeeded in opening the score in the 50th minute with a brilliant shot, before the ‘Lions’ imposed their control over the game, taking advantage of the opponent’s retreat.
Ounahi confirmed his brilliance by scoring the second goal in the 82nd minute after a quick attack led by Shamseddine Talbi, before Sufyan Rahimi sealed the triple in added time, securing a well-deserved win and leading Morocco to the quarterfinals.
The Moroccan team will now await the identity of its next opponent, who will be the winner of the match between France and Paraguay, as it continues its remarkable journey in the 2026 World Cup.
