The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the opening of applications to host the Africa Cup of Nations 2028, as well as the editions for 2032 and 2036, in a move aimed at enhancing transparency and credibility in selecting the countries to organize the biggest sporting event on the African continent.
This invitation to all its 54 national member associations is part of a new selection framework that ensures the implementation of the best international practices.
CAF confirmed in an official statement that it has sent invitations to its 54 member associations, encouraging them to express their interest and submit their candidacy files.
The terms of reference for this process were prepared in cooperation with a global consulting firm, along with a group of specialized consultants in technical, financial, and legal aspects, to guarantee a comprehensive and fair evaluation of all submitted bids.
This new methodology aims to establish clear criteria that ensure the integrity of the selection process and align with the highest global standards in organizing major football competitions.
This framework sets solid foundations for selecting the best countries capable of hosting the Africa Cup of Nations, a sporting event that enjoys a wide fan following and attracts more than 3.2 billion viewers worldwide, with over 6 billion views recorded across various digital platforms.
These developments come as Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda prepare to jointly host the 2027 edition of the tournament, scheduled from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
CAF affirms its commitment to organizing a major continental championship for men’s national teams every year, except during FIFA World Cup final years, with further details regarding upcoming continental events to be announced later.
