Bouadi’s Brilliance with the Moroccan National Team Sparks Controversy in France

The remarkable brilliance of Ayoub Bouadi with the Moroccan national team in his first participation in the World Cup sparked widespread controversy in French football circles. The outstanding performance of the 18-year-old Lille midfielder did not go unnoticed in France, prompting many voices to question the reasons behind losing such a talent to the Atlas Lions.

Press reports revealed that Bouadi was eligible to represent the French national team, having previously defended the colors of Les Bleus across various youth levels up to the under-21 team, even wearing the captain’s armband during the last international stop before the World Cup. However, he ultimately chose to represent Morocco at the international level, a decision that irritated many in France, especially after he showed great potential against Brazil.

Former French international Jérôme Rothen sharply criticized coach Didier Deschamps, holding him responsible for letting go of Ayoub Bouadi. Rothen expressed his astonishment at Deschamps’ statements, affirming that the player’s talent had been evident for a long time and did not need to wait for his performance against Brazil. He pointed out that the role of the coach, technical staff, and the French Football Federation president was to communicate with the player, convince him to stay and represent France, and support him throughout his football career.

Rothen confirmed that Bouadi possesses unique qualities and abilities that surpass some current French midfielders, offering a different style of play compared to names like Aurélien Tchouaméni, Adrien Rabiot, and Manu Koné. This controversy clearly highlights the French regret over losing the talent of Ayoub Bouadi, which has cast a shadow over the football scene.
