Moroccan star Mehdi Benatia, former sporting director of Olympique Marseille, opens the door to a possible return to the world of football in the future, pointing to the possibility of joining Paris Saint-Germain if an ambitious sporting project led by Nasser Al-Khelaifi is available.
Benatia’s statements came in a press interview carried by the website “Foot Mercato,” where he explained his decision to step away from football at the moment for personal reasons, but he did not rule out returning in the future.
Benatia emphasized the deep mutual respect and affection that bind him to the president of Paris Saint-Germain, Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
He said: “I made the decision to leave for many reasons, but if I constantly talk with people like Nasser Al-Khelaifi, it is because he might need me one day. Not now, I need rest, but after 3, 4, or even 5 years, if a project comes that motivates me to return to football, and Nasser needs me in a role within Paris Saint-Germain, and if it suits me, then why not?”
This statement sheds light on the strong relationship between Mehdi Benatia and Al-Khelaifi and opens the door for speculation about the future of the Moroccan star.
Additionally, the former Moroccan international stressed that any future decision he takes will stem from his personal conviction and the nature of the sporting project that might be offered to him, indicating that he does not feel any obligation towards any party in his career.
These statements confirm that Mehdi Benatia’s possible return to Paris Saint-Germain will be based on professional foundations and a personal conviction in the team’s project, suggesting the possibility of seeing Benatia in a sensitive administrative or technical role at the Parisian club in the coming years.
