The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) today announced an exceptional plan for the opening of the 2026 World Cup competitions, deciding to hold three massive and unprecedented opening ceremonies in the three host countries of the tournament: Mexico, Canada, and the United States of America. This step aims to highlight the cultural diversity and unity that distinguish this historic edition of the tournament.
The international football federation explained that the celebrations will kick off from Mexican soil on June 11, specifically at the famous “Azteca” stadium in Mexico City, 90 minutes before the opening match between the Mexican national team and South Africa.
This opening ceremony will be celebrated by a selection of global stars, led by Alejandro Fernandez, Danny Ocean, Leila Downs, and the international star J Balvin, marking a dazzling start to the 2026 World Cup events.
The following day, Canada will welcome the world with a similar artistic ceremony at “BMO Field” in Toronto, just before the match between Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina, featuring artists Alanis Morissette and Jessie Reyez.
The celebration series will conclude in Los Angeles at the “SoFi” stadium, where a grand artistic ceremony will be held before the match between the USA and Paraguay, performed by the famous rapper “Future” and international star Katy Perry, thus ending this festive start to the World Cup.
The FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, confirmed that “The World Cup is a moment shared by the entire world, and these celebrations reflect the uniqueness of each host country and the unity that characterizes the competition itself. It’s a great start to a true global celebration.”
This initiative reflects FIFA’s vision of making the 2026 World Cup a unifying cultural and sporting event, going beyond the boundaries of football to include a celebration of diversity and cooperation among nations.
