Patrice Motsepe, president of the African Union for Football, clarified that the final decision in the case of the Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal is now under the jurisdiction of the International Court of Arbitration for Sport ‘CAS’.
During a press conference following the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Union, Motsepe explained that the proceedings of the final match are still under close scrutiny by the Confederation, due to the deep discussions and divisions it has caused at the continental level.
The African official indicated that ‘CAF’ is fully aware of the sensitivity of the current stage, and therefore preferred not to disclose details of the file until the official ruling from the competent court is issued.
Motsepe confirmed at the end of his statement that the African Union is fully committed to the decisions of ‘CAS’, considering that respecting judicial rulings is a fundamental pillar in the rules of transparency and governance that the continental body seeks to enhance.
