Africa Cup – Tangier

The Senegalese national football team has secured its place in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations “Morocco 2025,” triumphing over Sudan with a 3-1 victory in a match held at the Grand Stadium in Tangier.

Despite expectations favoring the “Lions of Teranga,” the match commenced with an unforeseen turn as Sudan stunned Senegal with an early goal, disrupting their anticipated strategy.

Surprising Start and Strong Senegalese Response

Sudan commenced the match with noticeable confidence, with Amir Abdullah opening the scoring in the sixth minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse by Senegal. This early advantage invigorated the “Jediane Falcons.”

The early goal spurred Senegal into action, as they intensified their play and sought a swift equalizer. They asserted midfield dominance, consistently threatening Sudan’s goal with organized movements and rapid ball distribution.

Pape Gueye Leads the Comeback

Pape Gueye emerged as a pivotal figure, spearheading Senegal’s resurgence by netting the equalizer in the 29th minute following a well-coordinated team attack, bringing the score level.

Gueye continued his standout performance into the second half, scoring his second goal and Senegal’s second in the 48th minute, giving the “Lions of Teranga” the lead and shifting the momentum of the match.

Complete Dominance and Decisive Victory

After taking the lead, Senegal tightened its grip on the match, leveraging its physical and tactical superiority. In contrast, Sudan’s performance visibly declined under the opponent’s pressure.

In the 77th minute, Ibrahima Mbaye extinguished Sudan’s hopes of a comeback, scoring Senegal’s third goal with a swift counter-attack that exploited gaps in Sudan’s defense.

Senegal Awaits Quarter-Final Opponent

With this victory, the Senegalese national team continues its formidable presence in the continental tournament, affirming its ambition for the title. The team displayed strong character and the ability to recover in critical moments.

The “Lions of Teranga” are set to face the winner of the quarter-final match between Mali and Tunisia, which will take place this evening at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
