The International Court of Arbitration for Sport, “CAS,” announced today that its deliberations regarding Senegal’s appeal against the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final are ongoing. The appeal was filed by the Senegalese Football Federation against the Confederation of African Football and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. The court confirmed that the final decision will not be issued before the end of next November, thus keeping this sensitive case open for further time.
A statement from “CAS” revealed that the hearing for this sensitive case was held on October 8 at the court’s headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, behind closed doors to ensure the confidentiality of the deliberations. After the session ended, the arbitration panel began evaluating all the arguments and documents submitted by the concerned parties.
The same source indicated that the arbitrators decided to issue a comprehensive ruling that includes all relevant details and legal reasons on which the final decision will be based. These procedures require additional time estimated at several weeks; therefore, the announcement of the awaited judgment was scheduled for the end of November 2026 to ensure a thorough and comprehensive study of all aspects of Senegal’s appeal in the Africa Cup of Nations final.
The Senegalese Football Federation had filed this appeal before “CAS” objecting to the previous decision that awarded the Moroccan team a 3-0 victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. This decision came after the “Lions of Teranga” players withdrew from the field during the final match, sending the case to the world’s highest sports arbitration body pending a final ruling.
