Wydad AC Secures Moroccan Defender Ayman El Wafi from Lugano
Wydad Athletic Club has finalized all arrangements for the acquisition of Moroccan defender Ayman El Wafi from Swiss club FC Lugano. The signing, officially announced during the upcoming winter transfer window, is part of the team’s strategic plan to bolster its defensive line with experienced international players.
The “Red Castle” administration reached a comprehensive agreement with Lugano officials regarding the financial terms of the transfer. All contractual clauses with the player’s representatives were also finalized without dispute in the final stages of negotiations.
El Wafi has signed a long-term contract extending for four and a half years, poised to become a cornerstone of Wydad’s defense. His role as a central defender and his significant experience, despite his young age, are highly valued by the club.
El Wafi is a product of European football academies, having developed his skills in Italy and played for Hellas Verona. He moved to the Swiss league in the summer of 2023, following his prominent performances with the Moroccan Olympic national team, which culminated in winning the U23 Africa Cup of Nations.
The new Wydad defender was previously considered for the Olympic national team that qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics. However, his contractual obligations with his Swiss club prevented his participation. Throughout his career, he has played alongside several players currently part of the senior national team.
This signing is expected to be a significant addition for Wydad AC as the club strives to regain defensive stability and compete strongly across various domestic and continental fronts.
