Rabat – Africa Cup of Nations 2025

The Moroccan national team secured a crucial victory at the start of their Africa Cup of Nations campaign, defeating Comoros 2-0 in the opening match held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

The match witnessed significant official attendance, led by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, alongside Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, Patrice Motsepe, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.

Moroccan National Team Victorious Over Comoros in Strong Start

The “Atlas Lions” entered the match with clear determination to achieve a positive start in the continental tournament. They exerted high pressure from the opening minutes, employing an organized offensive strategy in pursuit of an early goal.

The excellent midfield distribution by the players contributed to controlling the game’s tempo, diversifying attacking options through both wings and the center.

Missed Penalty Does Not Disrupt Plans

The Moroccan team was awarded a penalty in the eleventh minute after a solo effort by Brahim Díaz inside the box. However, Soufiane Rahimi failed to convert it, as Comoros goalkeeper Yannick Pandor saved the shot.

Despite this missed opportunity, the Moroccan team maintained their confident pressure, with the penalty miss not affecting their collective performance.

Captain’s Forced Exit and Rebalancing

The eighteenth minute of the match saw an unexpected event as Captain Romain Saïss was forced to leave the field due to injury, necessitating an early substitution by the technical staff.

Jawad El Yamiq entered as a substitute, and the national coach quickly reorganized the defensive line to maintain balance and stability at the back.

Brahim Díaz Opens the Scoring

At the start of the second half, the Moroccan team increased their tempo with more effective pressure on the Comoros defense.

In the fifty-fifth minute, Brahim Díaz successfully opened the scoring after a well-orchestrated collective attack that began in midfield and culminated in a precise shot inside the penalty area, igniting the stadium’s stands.

Ayoub El Kaabi’s Bicycle Kick Seals the Match

The “Atlas Lions” continued their dominance throughout the match, capitalizing on their opponent’s physical decline.

In the seventy-fourth minute, Ayoub El Kaabi scored the second goal in a spectacular fashion, utilizing a ball inside the penalty area and netting it with a brilliant bicycle kick that received a massive reaction from the attending fans.

Moroccan Team’s Victory Over Comoros Secures First Three Points

This victory awarded the Moroccan team their first three points in the group stage, temporarily placing them at the top of their group, pending the remaining matches of the round.

In contrast, the Comoros team failed to match the Moroccan pace and limited themselves to few attempts that posed no real threat.

Strong Group and Clear Ambitions

The Moroccan national team is in Group A alongside Comoros, Mali, and Zambia – a group that demands high focus in all matches.

The technical staff is relying on this victory to boost confidence while correcting some technical details before upcoming confrontations.

Preparation for the Mali Match

The “Atlas Lions” are preparing to face the Mali national team in their second match on Friday, December 26, at the same stadium, in what is expected to be a more competitive encounter.

The Moroccan team aims to secure a second victory to bolster their chances of early qualification for the next round.
