Moroccan Games and Sports Plays Pivotal Role in National Sports Development
Younes El Mechrafi, Director General of Moroccan Games and Sports (MGS), affirmed the institution’s crucial role in organizing and operating sports gaming competitions across Morocco. MGS achieves this by developing products that meet market demands while adhering to responsible gaming principles.
Speaking at the International Sports Forum, El Mechrafi highlighted MGS’s strong commitment to the state, evidenced by significant financial contributions to the National Sports Development Fund (FNDS) and various solidarity funds.
Conversely, he emphasized the urgent need to combat illegal betting, which poses a direct threat to state finances and vulnerable populations.
During his presentation at the International Sports Forum held at the House of Representatives, El Mechrafi revealed that MGS’s contributions to the FNDS and other state-benefitting initiatives are projected to reach a total of 791 million dirhams in 2024. This figure represents an average annual growth rate of 16 percent for the period spanning 2010 to 2024.
He further elaborated that by the end of 2024, the sports lottery company will have accumulated 8.8 billion dirhams in financial contributions to the state since 2010. Additional contributions, encompassing taxes, fees, COVID-19 solidarity funds, and the fund for managing the aftermath of the Al Haouz earthquake, reached an accumulated total of approximately 2.8 billion dirhams.
