Mauritian Football President Criticizes AFCON Final Officiating and CAF Administration
Samir Sobha, President of the Mauritian Football Federation and a member of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee, has issued strong statements regarding the Africa Cup of Nations final held in Rabat. Sobha acknowledged that the Moroccan national team was subjected to what he described as unjust decisions that impacted the course of the final match.
Speaking to foreign media, Sobha clarified that certain rules were not correctly applied during the encounter. He indicated that the actions of the Senegalese team warranted clear disciplinary sanctions, which were not enforced by the refereeing staff or the organizing bodies. He affirmed that Morocco was prejudiced by these decisions.
Sobha added that his acknowledgement of these facts does not question Senegal’s title victory. However, he stressed the importance of objectivity and confronting errors to safeguard the credibility of African competitions and ensure future adherence to regulations.
Beyond the final, Sobha also addressed the administrative situation within CAF, criticizing the continued tenure of the current Secretary-General despite having exceeded the legal retirement age. He deemed this contrary to internal regulations and called for immediate corrective action by the continental body’s senior leadership.
The African official concluded his remarks by urging CAF President Patrice Motsepe to make decisive decisions to ensure compliance with systems and laws within the institution. He emphasized that administrative reform is an urgent necessity to maintain transparent management and enhance the trust of national federations in the African football organization.
