CAF Condemns Unacceptable Fan Behavior from Al Ahly Supporters
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a strong condemnation of the unacceptable incidents perpetrated by some Al Ahly fans during their match against AS FAR, played as part of the sixth and final round of the CAF Champions League group stage.
CAF, in an official statement, announced its decision to refer the case to its Disciplinary Committee for a comprehensive investigation. The aim is to accurately determine responsibilities and implement the necessary sanctions in accordance with existing regulations, thereby ensuring adherence to competition rules and sportsmanship.
Football circles are now awaiting the results of the investigation and the anticipated disciplinary actions. There are widespread calls for the principle of justice and equality to be applied to all clubs, and for any double standards in decision-making to be avoided.
The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces Association (AS FAR) previously denounced the unsportsmanlike conduct of some Al Ahly supporters, which included throwing bottles at their players and technical staff. This behavior posed a direct threat to their safety throughout the match.
AS FAR’s management confirmed that it has initiated the necessary legal measures, including formally contacting CAF, to demand the activation of penalties stipulated in the regulations. This action aims to uphold the principles of fair play and guarantee the safety of all participants in continental competitions.
